Coronavirus and the Arkansas Gymnastics Community

Hello everyone!

While the decision to cancel our State Meet was not easy, the health and safety of our athletes, coaches, officials, spectators and of course the staff at the Stephens Center very quickly became a priority. Once I received word, the Mayor of Little Rock, was ready to announce no public gatherings of 200 or more, heard the SEC and NCAA had canceled tournaments, I knew we needed to make a decision. I sought advice from our Regional Chair who was in close communication with USA Gymnastics and talked in length with the Facilities Director of the Stephens Center. I gathered this information at which time, your Arkansas USA Gymnastics Committee immediately gathered via a lengthy conference call to discuss options and make a decision. I have to admit, It was a hard decision for all of us, it was not made lightly. We understand as club owners and coaches how hard all our athletes have worked to achieve that one score to make it to state meet.  I also understand people want to know what happens to the athletes who might have qualified for Regionals. That discussion will happen with the Regional Committee members. There will be several upcoming conference calls with the Regional Committee to determine the best possible options for those athletes registered for State Meet. I ask for everyone’s patience at this time while we walk through uncharted territory. Cancellations and disruptions are annoying, however, I’m going to rest a little bit better tonight, knowing we made a good, sound decision, putting our athletes and our community first above all else.
We have tried to reach everyone via phone this afternoon to share this information and alert families before they got on the road or too far into the trip to Little Rock. If we missed someone, please accept my apologies. Below is a link to information USA Gymnastics sent out to everyone earlier this afternoon. We are all in this together. We will continue to do what’s best for our athletes…train hard, have good days and bad, all the while continuing to love what we do! I appreciate all of you!

With great respect,
